Why Steak Au Poivre Crostini?
When I throw parties, I always try to give my guests something a little indulgent. Something that they wouldn’t necessarily make for themselves, but something that is yummy and craveable. It’s also important for me to make something that isn’t too prep heavy. Because chances are, I will be making multiple dishes and need to be able to share my time. This simple recipe definitely accomplishes both of those missions.
The Ingredients
Because this is such a simple recipe, the way to elevate it is with ingredients.
Steak
You are welcome to use any steak cut that you like, but there is something so very decadent about a filet mignon steak! Plus it is a cut that isn’t overly fatty, which means as they cool to room temp, you don’t have to worry about any seized up fatty areas.
Crostini
Crostini is just a fun fancy word for some toasted bread. But the thing that makes it extra special is using some delicious french baguettes! Slicing and baking the baguette will take it to a new level and make it the perfect base for the sumptuous appetizer.
Mustard
The mustard in this dish acts as the main flavor bomb. So when I prepare this, I always try to mix together some fo my favorite mustards for the ultimate flavor. A spicy brown mustard gives it a bit of a kick that goes great with steak, and the Dijon mustard elevates things a bit for a more refined flavor.
Seasoning
“Poivre” simply means pepper in French. So for this recipe, I highly recommend using a good fresh cracked pepper to elevate that peppery taste. And don’t be afraid to finish it off with another good crack of pepper and the chopped chives!
Steak Au Poivre Crostini Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 Filet Mignon Steaks
- 1 French Baguette
- 4 tbsp Spicy Brown Mustard
- 2 tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 1 bunch Chives
- Salt
- Fresh Cracked Pepper
- Butter
- Olive Oil
Instructions
- First, season your room temp steaks with salt and lots of cracked black pepper. Grill or pan fry up to your desired temperature (I recommend medium to medium-rare). Be sure to baste with some of the butter to keep it moist. Set aside and let rest.
- Preheat the oven to 350. Slice the baguette at a bit of an angle in about 1/2 inch slices and arrange on a baking sheet. Bake for a few minutes on each side until they are crusty but not too dried out. Allow to cool.
- While the crostini bake, mix together the spicy brown and dijon mustard. Once they have cooled, spread a small amount of the mustard mixture on each slice of bread.
- Slice the rested steaks into about 1/4 inch slices. Place one slice on top of each crostini.
- Top with fresh snipped chives and serve! Enjoy!
